Journeyman at American Factory in Valparaiso has been one of the most anticipated new wedding venues in Northwest Indiana. They began securing dates in 2024, and I was thrilled to capture Niko and Nicole’s Spring wedding there.
Journeyman promises that you will experience the entrepreneurial spirit of American ingenuity at its new campus in Valparaiso. This location has seen centuries of diverse manufacturing. Here, you will find multiple restaurants, a brewery, a rooftop bar, and a candy shop, and you might even spot me photographing an epic wedding in either the East or West Ballroom.
The spacious venue hosts events on its top floor, which features a bridal suite for a comprehensive experience for couples and their families. We started this couple’s memorable day with bride and groom preparations, which led to two emotional first looks.
Vendors include:

A "first look" at a wedding is a special, intimate moment where the couple sees each other for the first time before the ceremony. This modern tradition has become increasingly popular, as it allows the couple to share a private, emotional experience away from the eyes of their guests. Whether it's a quiet moment in a secluded garden or a dramatic reveal on a grand staircase, the first look sets the stage for heartfelt reactions, joyful tears, and genuine expressions of love. It also provides an opportunity for stunning, candid photos that capture the raw emotions of the day, adding a deeply personal touch to the wedding album.
Beyond the emotional impact, a first look can also help ease pre-ceremony nerves and create a more relaxed timeline for the day. By seeing each other beforehand, couples often feel more at ease, allowing them to fully enjoy the ceremony and celebration without the pressure of waiting for that big reveal at the altar. It also provides a chance to take portraits early, freeing up more time to spend with family and friends after the ceremony. While some couples still cherish the tradition of waiting until the walk down the aisle, a first look offers a beautiful, modern alternative that blends romance, practicality, and an unforgettable moment of connection.

Industrial buildings have become a sought-after venue for modern weddings, offering a unique blend of raw, urban charm and contemporary elegance. With exposed brick walls, soaring ceilings, and large, steel-framed windows, these spaces provide a striking backdrop that effortlessly balances grit and sophistication. Their open layouts allow for endless customization, whether couples envision a minimalist, chic celebration or a lavish, dramatic affair. The contrast of industrial elements with soft florals, warm lighting, and modern décor creates a visually stunning aesthetic that feels both stylish and intimate. Plus, the history and character of these buildings add an extra layer of depth, making each wedding feel distinctive and one-of-a-kind.

Inside the Journeyman East Room, Niko and Nicole’s wedding celebration unfolded with an effortless mix of modern elegance and urban charm. Warm string lights draped from exposed beams, casting a soft glow over long wooden tables adorned with lush greenery and flickering candles.
The raw textures of brick and metal contrasted beautifully with delicate floral arrangements and elegant place settings, creating a space that felt both intimate and grand. Guests mingled beneath towering windows that let in streams of natural light during the day, while at night, the venue transformed into a romantic, candlelit haven.
With a spacious, open floor plan, the couple and their guests seamlessly moved from heartfelt toasts to a lively dance floor, making the most of the venue’s dynamic and inviting atmosphere.
DJ Stevie Dee of Operation Get Down provided the soundtrack for the night.
