I introduced Region Weddings Short Films in 2020 and this wedding package add on has proven quite popular since then. I thought it was time for a followup to even further explain how this photo/video hybrid coverage works and answer questions that I sometimes hear.
The first thing to talk about is probably your biggest concern about this as it was also mine…
Does video coverage take away from the photography?
Hybrid photo/video coverage is just like it sounds, the photographer takes still images throughout the day but switches the camera over to take short video clips thoughout the day and then switches back again.
I have happily found that this does not take away from the quality of the wedding photos that I’m known for. I will put you in situations to create movement (walking, dancing, etc.) more so than a stills only wedding but this will not take up too much extra time at all.
The beauty of this hybrid photo/video coverage is that it is very seamless and you won;t even know it’s happening at times. It’s very unobtrusive.
All the video footage is done handheld and then slowed down in editing (mostly) providing a cinematic keepsake that is a perfect companion to all of the still photography you receive. It is set to music and you can see it in Kayla and Jesse’s Short film above.
Will you be offering long form video?
Long form videos are best done by a dedicated video team. I have companies that I would gladly recommend to you for this.
This type of video requires multiple cameras at different angles, tripods to be set up, wireless audio to be monitored and captured and more. You do NOT want your wedding photographer dealing with the technical aspects of all of this while also trying to capture the moments of your day in stills.
To retain a high level of quality, I will not be offering long form video but can help you find a reputable videography team.
The benefit of the Short Film is it is easily digestible by friends and family and perfect for sharing on social media, playing at family eventgs throughout the years, etc.
How do I receive the Short Film?
The Short Films are included in the wedding galleries. Have a look at Sarah and Brent’s wedding gallery here where you can view their Short Film and the images from their wedding day.
If you have a wedding package where all media comes to you via download then you will receive the video in that manner. If your package contains a physical media case, then you will receive the video that way.
What is the cost of adding the Short Film to our wedding package?
The Short Film is included within one of the wedding packages, but can be added onto any package via my online store.
The Region Weddings Short Film is perfect for couples who would love to have video representation of their entire wedding day, set to music and captured without audio.
Short Films are captured from one angle in a handheld documentary style with no extra personnel or equipment like tripods. It is done simultaneously with your wedding photos throughout the day. This is known as “hybrid coverage”.
Includes:
3 to 4-minute film set to music
Bridal prep, moments, ceremony, speeches, main dances
Hybrid coverage is done by lead photographer Steve
Does the location of my wedding matter to adding the Short Film?
I shoot weddings in Northwest Indiana, southwest Michigan and the Chicago area in churches, barns, ballrooms and more. I can’t think of any location where video would be prohibited unless the venue restricts it for some reason.
