There are many great Midwest wedding venues, but certainly White Oak Farm Venue in Michigan City, Indiana, is a standout among them. It’s a terrific establishment for weddings and other events if you want the barn wedding aesthetic and a touch of elegance.
I will show you around the venue, using images from various weddings at both the large Cedar Barn and the slightly smaller Poplar Barn.
First, let’s have a look at what each barn looks like.
The Cedar Barn at White Oak Farm
Both barns have bridal suites, and there is a groom’s cottage behind the Cedar Barn. The bridal suite in the Cedar Barn has heavenly light, and the area is incredibly spacious. It’s perfect for the obvious images of bride and groom prep but also allows for great moments to be unveiled. I’ve also used the spaces for creative portraits.
Getting Ready in the Cedar Barn:
Portraits at White Oak Farm
When I photograph a wedding at White Oak Farm Venue, I make sure to utilize the entire area. There are so many locations across the entire property. There is a trail one can take for a more wooded look, where a wooden bridge resides, a corn field, a sunflower garden, and indoor locations.
Oh, and don’t forget to get a portrait or two done at twilight on the back deck.
Wedding Ceremonies at White Oak Farm Venue
I’ve photographed wedding ceremonies at the Cedar Barn, which has them on the back deck with the lake and fountain to the left and the scenic forest in the background.
The Poplar Barn also has them on the back deck, and if the weather does not cooperate, an outdoor ceremony under the canopy is an option.
The Poplar Barn at White Oak Farm
As seen below, the Poplar Barn is a gray-colored beauty with a covered outdoor ceremony area and a slightly smaller reception room as compared to its sister barn.
Wedding Receptions at White Oak Farm Venue
Cocktail hours usually occur on the respective outside decks of each barn simultaneously with the inside reception rooms.
It’s great fun, with cornhole games, snacks via the fire stove, and good old-fashioned mingling in the great outdoors.
I recently photographed a Halloween-themed wedding reception in the Poplar Barn with incredible seasonal decorations. From retro-inspired to classically elegant, I’m always excited to see what couples do to make weddings their own.
