I've photographed so many amazing churches here in Northwest Indiana that I could not possibly have room in one post for them all. After I highlight these few, I will add links to some other articles on church weddings I have done. Be sure to scroll down and view them at the bottom of this post.
St. Stanislaus Kostka Church
Located in Michigan City, Indiana - the wonderful St. Stan has the highest balcony of any church I have shot at. I remember trekking up the back stairs and wondering if I would ever reach the top. It was worth it to get this image from the balcony and capture all of the spectacular architecture of this historic church.
The great thing about Catholic weddings is they usually last awhile with plenty of time to capture the ceremony, guests, couple and of course wide shots of the church.
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton
This Valparaiso church is tucked away amidst the cornfields. I love how the light streams through the top windows and the surrounding area is a great opportunity for outdoor photos with a very Indiana flavor.
Our Lady of Grace Church
Located in Highland, Indiana, Our Lady of Grace Church has an array of light in the ceiling that I love to capture. It is right across from a park and adjacent to downtown Highland for plenty of pre and post ceremony outdoor photos.
St. Mary's Church
A very friendly church located in the heart of Griffith, Indiana is St. Mary on Broad St. I love the cross beams and the white ceiling. Central Park is located right across the street for outdoor bridal party shots as well. Sometimes we even go to Oak Ridge Prairie which is 5 minutes away and has a nice lake and wooded forest area too.
The Chapel of The Resurrection
Everyone asks about the following image which was shot in the spiral staircase leading to the basement of The Chapel of The Resurrection at Valparaiso University. The church itself is huge so get ready for a long walk down the aisle. I have shot here numerous times and I love it - the stained glass windows, the wooden pews, the tall stairway to the altar, the grand pianos and more.
St. John the Evangelist
The image that begins this article is one of my clients facing the cross in an area just outside the new St. John the Evangelist Church in St. John, Indiana. I say new because the older church is also located on Rt. 41 a little bit north of the new church. The ceremony images below are from the original church. Both of them are great destinations for a church wedding.
St. Andrew the Apostle Parish
Technically St. Andrew is in Calumet City, Illinois, but I had to include it as part of Northwest Indiana as it is so close and it is breathtaking. I love to capture the bride coming down the aisle on her Father's arm and also going to the balcony for a wide shot. I have found them to be very accommodating for photos afterward as well.
St. Michael's Church
St. Michael in Schererville, Indiana is located on Rt. 30 and I have shot many weddings at this Catholic church. One of the more dramatic moments at their wedding ceremonies is when the bride and groom pray to Mary in the adjacent room alone. The photographer is allowed to photograph this from a distance with absolutely no disturbance.
As I stated at the beginning of this article, so many wonderful churches in various faiths around Northwest Indiana. I do not have space to list them all, let alone all the photographs I've taken at them. Here are a few links of some other church weddings I have shot in the past few years:
